Colorfix Mattes

This shade is such a "Can do all". Whether you want to use Desert Rose for the Eyes, Cheeks or Lips it works. In my opinion Desert Rose looks great with a lot of skin tones. Very easy buildable for a hint to full covering effect. Stays all day. Tip: Mix this shade a bit with primary yellow and a stunning easy to wear shade appears!

As of now, I've tried the shades: Lift, Rootbeer, Beaches, Valentine, and Primary Yellow. I was going for a CMYK color scheme to make a mixing palette: Valentine and Primary Yellow to make reds and oranges, Beaches and Primary Yellow to make greens, Beaches and Valentine to make purples, Lift to lighten shades. I was going to purchase Blackout, but opted out at the last moment - however, I have made another purchase, and this time, it is included. I also have Colorfix Glazes in the shade Clear and Kaleidoscope. I typically pair my Colorfixes with eye(shadow) primers. The ones I own are e.lf. putty eye primer, Sigma Eyeshadow Base (in the shade Ignite), and the Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot (in the shade Painterly). Colorfixes are GREAT. I like them a lot!! I will admit though, as a hobbyist and someone kinda new to makeup, they are a bit hard to get under control at first. I highly recommend playing around with them without the pressure of getting it perfect to acclimate to how they move, blend, layer, and to figure out the right amount one needs at first -- because hoo boy, are these bad boys pigmented!!! A little goes a long, LONG way. Literally. They blend out very well. It is best to layer them very thinly in order to buff and blend them out into the skin, as otherwise one might pick up too much pigment on the brush and smudge the color instead. If you find that you put too much pigment on one eye, I would recommend either: 1) using a brush or finger to tap away the excess and put it onto the other lid (or on cheeks/lips), and then start blending once the amount is appropriate or 2) wait a bit (up to around 30 seconds, but try blending before that) for the innermost layer of Colorfix to dry and adhere to the eyelid, and then buff out the excess color on top of that dried layer Practice makes perfect! Colorfixes layer so, SO well. I've tried a look where I layered Beaches on top of Rootbeer, and it worked fine!! I mixed Beaches with Lift to make a more opaque, lighter base, and then used Beaches on top, and it only took that much for it to look as intense on the lid as in the tube! I definitely recommend working in layers, though that is motivated by personal preference and inexperience. I'd rather err on the side of caution, but you can go bolder. All of the Colorfix Mattes that I purchased are very, very opaque, white included! However, I do not recommend putting them on top of powder. Colorfix layers well on top of each other, balms and creams, but can become cakey and clay-like on top of powder. I've tried using the Colorfix Mattes for cut creases on top of eyeshadows, and it did not look that good - the Colorfix wants to mix with the colors underneath (even several layers deep), the edges become hard to control as the Colorfix hardens and becomes dense prematurely, and though you can layer powder on top, some shadows will not adhere to the edges that well. However, if you put on a layer of Colorfix first and THEN go in with powder, the colors will POP. Lift is especially good at making a nice white base for shadows. I recommend getting Lift with other Colorfix colors. I mix it often with Beaches and Primary Yellow to make a lighter base on top of which I can layer the pure Colorfix colors later. It just helps them pop, and I feel like Lift makes the other Colorfixes even more opaque. Rootbeer is a bit strange, I will say. It seems to have the sliiiiiightest bit of shimmer to it in the package, goes on far more liquid-like than the other Colorfixes (the consistency changes from hue to hue, likely bc of the pigments), and dries completely matte despite the apparent shimmer. Also, it's not as coppery as I expected - it has a purplish tint to it instead of being orange-leaning like I thought it'd be! My mother and friend really liked them tho, so I'm buying mom Rootbeer and a couple other shades as a birthday gift and my friend is looking into the collection to see what colors she'd like. I've used Colorfixes primarily as eyeshadows, but they work well on the cheeks and lips as well. On the lips I've noticed that they can dry down quite a bit, so I recommend scrubbing, hydrating, and moisturizing before you use them there. On the cheeks they're absolutely fine, but remember, a LITTLE goes a LONG way. Various shades can also absolutely be used as bronzers. I've been informed by Daria via e-mail correspondence that you can use Colorfixes on the waterline, and you absolutely can! It takes a couple of hours before they smudge. However, if you have sensitive eyes, be wary: you will, most likely, get some product onto your eyeball. When applying it on the waterline, you're likely to touch the water behind it, which will cause some product to detach from your waterline/brush and spread through the moisture on the eyeball. It will cause teariness, but I've not had any bad reactions to it so far. The thicker formulated Colorfixes will be less likely to fall into the water there, but liquidy Colorfixes like Rootbeer are more likely to hop on right in. When the Colorfix covers your pupil (the black hole in your eye) you might experience some discoloration or fuzziness in your vision, but everything should sort itself out within a minute (by removing the product from your eyes with tears). If you want to put Colorfix on your waterline, I recommend doing that BEFORE doing the rest of your face, and using Q-tips to gather up the tears at the edges of your eyes. And like I said, I have NOT had any irritation or lasting vision problems caused by this. It's just a little uncomfortable for a minute and then you're good to go. Unless, of course, your eyes are VERY sensitive - I recommend being more cautious then. Also!! The Colorfixes are GREAT mascaras!! Use a bristle brush or a normal eyeshadow brush and it'll work wonders. I recommend layering Lift before using brighter colors to get the strongest color payoff you can get. When it comes to how long these products wear, it varies on your eye and your base. I have VERY oily eyelids. Using Colorfixes straight on my lids made them crease slightly within an hour, though the crease didn't get much bigger for another two. Putting on an eye(shadow) base helped tremendously with avoiding creasing tho! if you have oily lids, I recommend priming, but if you're on the drier side (dry, not dehydrated), then you should be good to go right away! The Colorfix Glazes do not really dry down - they do have to stay glossy, after all. Kaleidoscope is wearable on the daily, as it dries down the most, but it stays moist so it will crease a bit. I'd say it stays acceptble on me for around two hours. Clear, however, creases QUICK. It shines on the cheeks and lips more than eyes, but if you're going for an aesthetic selfie rather than an everyday look, then it's a very good product!! Just don't expect for it to last all that long. I found it tends to move the Colorfix layers underneath as well. I personally dont use the Glazes on my eyes all that often since I go for long-lasting looks, but they're very fun to play around with, and I use them often on my cheeks and lips! Overall, these are very good, highly-pigmented, buildable, blendable, and very, very fun! I'm looking forward for my second order to come in so I can play around with new colors :D <3
